About Rachel 

Rachel Dacus is the author of eight novels and five poetry collections. Her newest novel, The Deadly Tea, is a cozy supernatural mystery. Dacus’ poetry has appeared in Boulevard, Gargoyle, Prairie Schooner, and several anthologies. A retired fundraising consultant, she lives in the San Francisco Bay Area where she writes, grows roses, and walks her Silky Terrier along the trails with her architect husband. Why I Became a Writer

My father was a painter, and my mother was a choral singer, so there was no way to escape the arts. I tried music, drawing, and dance, but had to go my own way, which began with paths through libraries and bookstores. Fantasies and mysteries drew me early on, as did Japanese classic haiku. Dorothy in Oz and Nancy Drew were my intrepid girl role models. At age ten, I wrote my first novel, a mystery. Fast forward to adulthood, an unforgettable art history tour of northern Italy inspired me to create the Timegathering Series. It begins with The Renaissance Club and now includes Jane Austen, Time Traveler. A story that started as a tribute to my late brother, The Invisibles, became an investigation of family, sibling bonds, and the possibility of an afterlife and lifetimes beyond. I have a bent toward things mystical, which also began at an early age, when I read The Tao de Ching and Many Mansions, a story of reincarnation.

My Writing Muse

This is Terry Dacus (officially “Elfinsilk’s Theresa d’Avila”). She gives me inspiration and a hobby, by curling up next to me as I write and by requiring  daily walking. Doesn’t every writer need a spirit animal? Or a plant, a presence to partner your creative musings.
